Come and join us for our annual festive visit to the wonderful Winchester Christmas Market — always one of our favourite Christmas days out!

By the time we visit, Winchester will be well and truly in the festive spirit. The Christmas Market is beautifully located in Winchester Cathedral’s historic Inner Close, right beside the magnificent Cathedral and just a short walk from the High Street.

With twinkling lights and more than 100 traditional wooden chalets, you’ll find a wonderful selection of handpicked exhibitors selling gifts, clothing, accessories, arts and crafts, festive decorations, toys, games and plenty of unique handmade treasures.

There’s usually lots of festive entertainment too, with local performers, school choirs, buskers, jazz groups and community bands helping to create a wonderful Christmas atmosphere.

And of course, no Christmas market would be complete without the food and drink! Expect favourites such as bratwurst, mulled wine, mulled cider, churros and roasted chestnuts, alongside a selection of delicious Hampshire produce and local traders.

The combination of festive lights, Christmas music and the aromas of cinnamon and mulled wine really does make Winchester a magical place to visit at this time of year.

You’ll also have plenty of time to explore Winchester itself, with its lovely shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

If you are planning to have lunch somewhere special, we recommend booking your table in advance, as the city can be very busy during the Christmas Market.

Winchester Cathedral

The Cathedral really is at the heart of this wonderful market and is well worth a visit.

During the festive season there are sometimes carol services and special events open to visitors. We’ll let you know nearer the time if anything coincides with our visit.

If there is a service you would particularly like to attend, it is worth joining the queue early — but the atmosphere inside the Cathedral at Christmas is something very special.
